Match the setup to the problem

A one-night movie picker or ongoing shared recommendations?

A decision between known titles and a search for new shared favorites need different amounts of setup.

Use a small picker when you already have candidates for tonight. Consider shared recommendations when finding candidates is a recurring problem. The first task needs both people’s current agreement. The second can benefit from profiles built over time, but it asks each person to contribute taste information.

When a local worksheet is enough

If you have two or three plausible films, bring them to our same-screen movie picker. Each person records yes, maybe or no. A no excludes a film, and two yeses take priority. The worksheet uses the titles and votes you enter. It does not discover films, look up availability or know either person’s viewing history.

This suits an occasional evening when the disagreement is between known options. Skip the worksheet if the real difficulty is that neither of you has a candidate; first ask each person for one suggestion that respects the other’s limits.

When profiles can earn their setup

The ReelRecs Watch+ walkthrough describes separate accounts, taste ratings and group membership. Joined members contribute to shared suggestions. People can inspect Group Score and record Would Watch or Pass, then agree on a film.

That approach can suit repeated movie nights where you want fresh possibilities. Skip account setup for tonight if it would consume the time you wanted to spend watching. A high group prediction also does not record permission from the other person; current interest remains part of the decision.

Use a simple decision rule

  1. If both people have acceptable candidates, compare those first.
  2. If the same search happens every week, discuss whether both people want to maintain a taste profile.
  3. If only one person wants the extra app, continue with a shared list or conversation until the benefit is clear to both.
  4. Whichever route you choose, confirm the film, runtime, price and provider together.

The useful outcome is a choice each person is willing to start. Choose the amount of setup that helps you reach that outcome. For recurring evenings, the guide below shows what using Watch+ requires before either person installs it.
